Volunteerism a priority for new Tuam Mayor

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Supporting the work of voluntary organisations will be a priority for the new Mayor of Tuam, Independent Councillor Imelda Kelly who was elected last night.

Her election was tinged with sadness as her late father, Miko Kelly, was the first Mayor when Tuam Town Commissioners became a Town Council 12 years ago but now with the abolition of town councils she will be the last Mayor of Tuam.

Cllr Larry Bane, Fine Gael was elected Deputy Mayor.

New Mayor Imelda Kelly, a primary teacher in Galway, praised the number of voluntary groups in Tuam and pledged to support their efforts.
