A 43-year-old man charged in connection with an alleged violent burglary in Salthill has been returned for trial to Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

Shane Holleran, with an address at 12 Garran Ard, Doughiska, is charged that on November 24, 2024, he entered a property at Whitestrand Park as a trespasser and committed assault causing harm.

The alleged burglary is contrary to section 12 (1) (b) of the Criminal Justice Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

Garda Peadar Brick told Galway District Court he presented Shane Holleran with the book of evidence at Galway Courthouse.

Sergeant Damien Prendergast confirmed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had consented to the accused being returned for trial to the present sittings of Galway Circuit Court, on March 25.

Judge Fiona Lydon delivered the alibi warning, informing the accused that if his defence in any way relied on an alibi then details of any supporting witnesses should be supplied in writing to the State within 14 days.

Judge Lydon also granted legal aid applications for solicitor Martina Moran and one junior counsel.
