The Salthill native was one of two men who were thrown into the water after a wave hit their boat about 2 kilometres north of Annaghdown at around 5pm yesterday.
A post-mortem on his body is being carried out at UHG today.
The second man, a 47 year old from Oranmore, is still being treated for hypothermia and shock at UHG this afternoon.
The Irish Red Cross has praised the efforts of local anglers in the rescue operation of two fishermen at Lough Corrib last evening.
