UNEMPLOYMENT RISES ONCE MORE IN GALWAY

Date Published: 05-Dec-2011
Unemployment in Galway is starting to nudge upwards again.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the number of people out of work rose in the city, Clifden and Gort.
The biggest rise in the number of employees without jobs was in the city where 103 more workers signed on in November, bringing the jobless total in the city to almost 11,700.
65 more people joined the dole queues in Clifden, where just over 1,300 people have no work.
Unemployment also rose very slightly in Gort where 8 people were added to the live register.
164 people came off the dole in the towns of Ballinasloe, Tuam and Loughrea however.
Tuam's jobless fell by 96 to 3,300, Loughrea's live register fell by 39 to 2,300 people, while Ballinasloe's unemployment dropped by 29 to 2,500 unemployed workers.
Our high emigration rate is thought to be a contributing factor.
The total jobless figure for the county lies at 22,446 people, up by 12 since last month.
That's still 245 fewer people on the live register compared to November last year.
