The head of the HSE's Special Delivery Unit says University Hospital Galway will not be fined over treatment waiting times in the latest round of penalties

Director Tony O'Brien has confirmed UHG is making progress in dealing with its long waiting lists

Tony O'Brien adds however an unnamed hospital is facing significant fines - for keeping a number of patients waiting for treatment for more than a year.

The hospital could be fined the cost of treating the patient elsewhere - plus a 100 per cent premium.

Or if the patient can't be moved - a penalty of 25 thousand euro a month will be imposed - per patient.
