Turf-cutting to cease on 7 Galway NHAs by 2017

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Turf-cutting is to be phased out on seven Galway national heritage areas by 2017.

The decision has been announced as the government publishes its long-term strategic plan for Ireland's peatlands.

18 full and three partial sites that had been earmarked for closure are to be de-designated which means cutting will not be restricted.

The sites where cutting must cease by 2017 include bogs in Aughrim, Ballygar, Bracklagh, Castle Ffrench East, Derrinlough, Moorfield/Farm Cottage and Raford River.
