Members of Tuam Town Council have hit out at the HSE West regarding the proposed closure of residential facilities at Toghermore House.

Two members of Tuam Town Council raised concerns at this week's meeting.

Councillor Imelda Kelly claimed the HSE plan to turn the residential part of Toghermore House into offices and she called on people to support Tuam Mental Health Associations campaign to put green ribbons on every door in protest against any downgrading of the facility.

Cllr Paul O’Grady said the HSE should not get away with the proposed transfer of 16 residents from the facility.

Cllr Tom Reilly said it was a dark day for the residents and he had requested that a delegation meet with Catherine Cunningham of the HSE and the local TDs before Friday to demand that the residential facility at Toghermore remain open.

Cllr Pat O’Hora was praised for a letter he wrote to Minister Kathleen Lynch to have the residential facility retained.

It was also decided that the Town Council write to Minister James Reilly to demand the retention of the facility.
