TUAM RESIDENTIAL AREA COULD BE MOST LITTERED ESTATE IN THE COUNTRY

Date Published: 23-Aug-2010
Gilmartin Road in Tuam may be the most littered residential estate in Ireland according to the Chairman of the Irish Business Against Litter Organisation (IBAL).
Tom Kavanagh made the comments as the Anti-Litter League for over 50 Irish towns and cities is released today (Monday).
Ballinasloe has been labelled as 'litter-free' but Galway city and Tuam are 'moderately littered'.
Some sites in the city such as NUIGalway and Gleann na Rí Apartments were clean to European Norms.
However, the city's streets were let down by heavy levels of chewing gum and cigarette butts such as the Spanish Arch and Middle Street.
