TUAM MAN REFUSED BAIL FOR ASSAULT CHARGE

A 27 year-old Tuam man has been refused bail by a judge at Galway District Court in connection with a serious assault on a man in the town two weeks ago. Judge Gerard Furlong told Mark Sweeney he was satisfied as to the likelihood he would interfere with the main witness, the victim. Mark Sweeney of 136 Palace Fields Tuam appeared before a holiday sitting of Galway District court yesterday having spent Christmas in Castlerea prison. He's charged with assaulting Brendan Mannion causing him harm at High Street Tuam on December 15th.
