TRIAL FOR MAN ACCUSED OF CITY CHILD RAPE

A 49-year-old man has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court charged with raping a young girl in Galway city over a four-year period during the 1980s.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces fourteen sample charges of raping the girl on various dates between 1983 and 1986 at two locations in the city.

Judge Mary Fahy sent the man forward for trial on bail to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
