TRADE UNION IMPACT QUESTIONS MOVE TO PRIVITISE MANAGEMENT OF UHG

Date Published: 18-Oct-2011
Trade Union IMPACT has questioned the process of recruiting a new private management team at University Hospital Galway.
The union, which represents HSE staff, says it's seeking clarification on whether the process is an attempt to bypass the HSE moratorium and public service pay guides.
The process to upskill management at University Hospital Galway is expected to start next month and take up to 15 months.
Five private companies are competing for the position which aims to improve overall management at hospitals across the HSE west region.
The successful team, to be announced in the coming days, will put new procedures in place to help tackle problems at UHG such as overcrowding at A and E.
According to the Department of Health, such a scheme has already been tried in Tallaght and had a positive impact in reducing patient numbers on trollies.
Minister James Reilly explained this new team will improve overall management at hopsitals, including UHG
The most recent HSE healthstats revealed UHG is officially the worst performing hospital in the country.
