Tuam may soon have stricter regulations regarding drinking in public if the town council chooses to implement a new bye-law.

At a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee, Superintendent Gearoid Begley said it is illegal for people to be drinking in public and, if the town council wished, it can strengthen this by passing a bye-law preventing the consumption of alcohol in public places.

Superintendent Begley said that while this is not “a magic solution” and there are pros and cons regarding this, it is still worth considering.
