Galway city’s best known gig space is one of four iconic music venues to feature in the new series of Seisiún – profiling a host of huge Irish names and emerging talents – on RTÉ1 next week.

The series aims to showcase the best of Irish music and to celebrate the rich musical heritage of the Roisin Dubh in Galway, along with DeBarras in Clonakilty, the Spirit Store in Dundalk and Cleeres in Kilkenny City.

The four-part series opens next Friday week, September 26, with a night in the Roisin Dubh with Mary Coughlan, Bell XI, Sharon Shannon and rising talent IMLE who grace the stage with new Rap/funk music as Gaeilge.

Singer and presenter Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh also chats with Gugai McNamara reflecting on the fact that the Roisin Dubh has been a staple of the Irish music scene for over 40 years – with Gugai himself at the helm for half of that time.

“Roisin Dubh is more than just a venue; it's a gathering place for music enthusiasts and a second home for musicians,” says Gugai.

“For years, we've fostered a whole community of artists, providing a stage for talents to shine and a space for our patrons to engage with a wide variety of music and arts. Everyone here in the Rosin takes immense pride in nurturing emerging musicians and showcasing their unique voices,” he adds.

The series also features the Hothouse Flowers, Jack Lukeman, the Cardinals, John Spillane, Ryan Sheridan and Gurriers – the rapidly-rising punk outfit that features Galway musician Charlie McCarthy on bass – who will feature in week three from Dundalk’s Spirit Store.

Seisiún is produced by Hedgerow Films in association with Whitethorn Productions for RTÉ, with support from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

The series will be available to view on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player commencing on Friday, September 26, on Friday nights at 8pm for four weeks.
