THOUSANDS TURN OUT FOR CITY PARADE

Thousands of spectators lined the streets of Galway this afternoon for this year's St Patrick's Day parade.
Over 80 groups participated in the "Green" themed event which was led by guest of honour, 19 year old Barna native Dora Gorman, who travelled in a 1923 convertible Ford T.
It took 90 minutes for the procession to pass through the city and despite forecasts of hail showers and a risk of thunder, parade-goers enjoyed dry weather right up until the closing minutes at what was described as a very impressive and diverse event.
All of Galway's new communities were represented at the colourful parade which was also attended by County Mayor Michael Mogie Maher.
