Thousands of Galway Leaving Cert students assess exam results

Galway Bay fm newsroom – School principals in the city and county are urging students to assess all options as they study their leaving cert results this afternoon. Over 3000 students picked up their envelopes today at schools across Galway, while an online system also opened at midday. The first round CAO offers will be issued on Monday. Outgoing principal at Headford Presentation College James Whyte says it's now time for students to take stock of results and consider all options carefully. Acting principal at Coláiste na Coiribe in the city, Stiofán O'Cualáin, found that students performed well in the core subjects areas. The Education Minister says she will do everything in her power to make it affordable for students to go to college. The latest report from the Irish League of Credit Unions revealed that parents and students are having to work longer hours to meet third level education bills. Speaking at St Nessan's Community College in Limerick, Minister Jan O'Sullivan said half of all third level students are now qualifying for a grant. She says finance should not be a barrier to education.
