The refurbishment of the landmark building at the Spanish Arch in the city will not be ready until at least the end of next year [2013].

That's according to Galway City Council, who say other projects are taking staff priority at the moment although a tender for the work will be chosen shortly

Comerford House, the protected structure at the Spanish Arch, was once home to the city museum, and has fallen into disrepair since it was evacuated some years ago.

The city council now plans to turn the building into office space to accommodate 12 staff, but says the move is still at a very early stage.
