TEENAGE GIRL DIES IN PORTUMNA ROAD CRASH

A 17 year old girl has died and six others have been injured following a two vehicle collision outside Portumna.

The incident occured at half past eleven this morning at Thornfield, on the road between Killimor and Portumna.

The teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to University Hospital Galway.

Three people were taken to Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe and three others are being treated at University College Hospital.

One female is understood to have sustained serious injuries.

The road between Killimor and Portumna is now closed as Gardai complete a technical examination of the scene.

 It's due to reopen at approximately 7 this evening.
