Teen accused of assaulting five people in city centre

By Ronan Judge
A teenager accused of assaulting five people on two different dates in Galway City centre will have his case heard in the Circuit Court.
Olan Jennings (19), with an address at Derydonnell North, Oranmore, appeared at Galway District Court charged with five offences contrary to section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act, as amended by section 20 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act.
He is charged that on January 1, 2025 at Coyote's Bar, 34 Shop Street, he assaulted a male causing him harm.
It is further alleged Jennings assaulted three different males and one female, causing them harm, on Shop Street on February 15, 2025.
Sergeant Brian Cunningham told the court he met Jennings by appointment at Galway Courthouse where he charged him with five offences.
The court heard the accused made no reply to any of the charges after caution.
Sergeant Cunningham said there was no objection to bail on condition the accused have no involvement with any of the alleged victims or witnesses.
Sergeant Cunningham said Jennings was in college in the United Kingdom and the State was satisfied he would attend for future court appearances.
Sergeant Claire Heneghan said that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed prosecution on indictment in the Circuit Court and there was no consent for the accused to be sent forward on a signed plea.
Sergeant Heneghan said a book of evidence would be required in the case.
Judge Fiona Lydon remanded Olan Jennings on continuing bail to appear again April 8.
Defence solicitor John Martin consented to the State's application for time to be extended for service of the book of evidence.
