Taoiseach to open cystic fibrosis unit at UHG
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Taoiseach is to visit the city next week where he will officiate at the opening of the new paediatric cystic fibrosis unit in UHG. The facility on the Newcastle Road is part funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Association. Around 1 in 9 people in Ireland carry the CF gene, compared to 1 in 25 in the UK. The new unit at UHG will reduce the risk of infection to children with CF, allowing specialists to treat patients in an optimal physical environment. It will include four examination rooms, a treatment room for procedures and a gym for assessment and physiotherapy.
