Merit Medical is based in Parkmore Business Park East and has been in operation since the mid nineties.

It currently employs around 300 staff.

Up to 200 high calibre positions are expected to be formally announced by the Taoiseach.

Mr Kenny is also expected to announce 37 new jobs at software firm Copperfasten Technologies, which already employs 15 people in Salthill.

Earlier the Taoiseach officiated at a Breakfast briefing in the Radisson Hotel in the city organised by Galway Chamber and IBEC

He gave a speech about the treaty as part of the Government's information campaign in the run up to the Fiscal Treaty Referendum.

A number of protestors from the former Occupy Galway camp gathered outside the event.

Chris Duignan was one of the demonstrators - he spoke on Galway Talks and said peaceful protests will continue even after the dismantling of the camp.
