SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR DRUGS FACTORY IN KINVARA

A Trinity law student has received a suspended five-year prison sentence for operating a cannabis-growing factory near Kinvara.
25 year old Cian O Concubhair, from Ballymaclinaun, Liscannor, Co. Clare, had spent Christmas in prison.
He was awaiting sentence after pleading guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court on December 14 to having cannabis worth almost 50 thousand euro at his rental address at Caherawoneen, Kinvara, on March 14 last year.
Judge Raymond Groarke said it was “exceptional in the extreme” to impose a suspended sentence, but he was doing so in this case because the accused had not been selling drugs on the open market.
