Private funding for the Galway to Ballinasloe section of the M6 motorway was just over half of what the State contributed.

According to figures obtained by the Irish Times, private funding for the Ballinasloe section was 280 million euro, while the State paid almost double that, under the Public-Private Partnership.

The country's toll roads are generally not financially beneficial to either the operators or the State as a briefing note to the Department of Transport states that many of the roads, "recorded little or negative growth in 2009."
