St. Michaels need to reach new high in All-Ireland final

Date Published: 12-Feb-2009

THERE’LL be plenty of passion on display at Croke Park on St. Valentine’s night – but it will be of the footballing variety as two hungry, young sides lock horns in the AIB All-Ireland intermediate final under floodlights at the Dublin 3 venue on Saturday night (7.45pm).There could be a fair dollop of romance, too, if city club St. Michael’s manage to keep their 2008 momentum going and capture the title against Kerry champions, St. Michael’s/Foilmore – a win at the weekend would, by a long shot, represent the club’s biggest achievement since it was founded in 1956.The tearful scenes of joy that greeted St. Michael’s victory over Laois champions, Ballyroan Abbey, in Newtown Cashel a few weeks ago will undoubtedly be replicated at Jones Road come 9pm on Saturday if manager Pat Regan’s charges can muster up another historic win.
