ST FRANCIS RESIDENTIAL NURSING HOME TO CLOSE TOMORROW

St Francis Community Nursing Home in the city is to close tomorrow [Fri May 18].

City Councillor Catherine Connolly says the nursing home facility will cease operations tomorrow and the remaining residents will be moved to alternative accommodation.

It follows a long-running campaign to keep the Newcastle residential facility open and a petition which gathered over 25 thousand signatures.

Councillor Connolly says while it is to remain as a day centre, the closure of the residential nursing home is a sad day as it's the last such public nursing facility in the city.
