Special meeting of city council underway on bin service privitisation
Galway Bay fm newsroom - A specially convened meeting of the City council is underway to consider a section 140 notice in relation to closing the domestic refuse service.
The City Manager met with council party whips earlier today to iron out some issues before the meeting gets underway.
Brendan McGrath announced plans to close the service last week stating it was not financially sustainable to continue with the business.
Councillors submitted a Section 140 notice, requesting the service be continued, and this will be debated at City Hall on College road at 4 o' clock.
However, the City Manager has received legal advice and the process to close the service is already in motion.
