South Galway farmers to get response next week on Single Farm Payment cuts
Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Dáil is to issue a response next week to a question raised on behalf of farmers in South Galway in relation to the Single Farm Payment.
Mayo Deputy John O'Mahony has tabled a question asking for a breakdown of the number of farmers across the country who have had their payments cut or withdrawn. The issue was brought to the attention of the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament last week, after farmers in Keelderry on the slopes of Slieve Aughty had their payments cut.The committee has written to the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney asking him to review the appeals procedure and instigate an independent investigation of the lands at Keelderry in relation to eligibity.North West MEP Higgins says he believes an Independent Ombudsman needs to be appointed for the Department of Agriculture.
