Small group at City Hall to protest over plans to privatise refuse service
Galway Bay fm newsroom - A handful of protestors are demonstrating outside city hall this afternoon over plans to privatise the local authority's domestic refuse service.
The small demonstration is organised by the Galway anti-austerity assembly, and got underway in the last half an hour to co-incide with this month's meeting of the council which gets underway around now.
The topic is up for discussion at the meeting - however Galway City Council says it will not make any comment on the matter until it's brought before councillors.
Holding banners and a plastic bag with rubbish, the group says it is against such a move.
One of the protestors, Brid, is in receipt of a waiver from city council, and says she can't afford to pay for a private service.
