Up to six thousand fans turned out to welcome the senior Galway hurling team at their city homecoming last evening.
They were defeated by Kilkenny on Sunday with a scoreline of 3.22 to Galway's 3.11.
The civic reception was hosted by Galway City Council and saw the team bus arrive slightly behind schedule to a rapturous welcome at Pearse Stadium at around 8.45pm.
City Mayor Terry O'Flaherty opened proceedings and congratulated the team for a fantastic year of hurling.
Team Captain Fergal Moore paid tribute to the fans who have supported the team along the way.
Manager Anthony Cunninghan also addressed the supporters and thanked them for their special welcome.
After the signing of the civic reception book, the full team of players was introduced to the crowd.
