SHRULE COUPLES FAMILY SAFE AFTER JAPAN EARTHQUAKE

Date Published: 12-Mar-2011
SHRULE-JAPANESE couple Padraic and Meukey Frehan are relieved that their family and frinds in Tokyo are safe following the earthquake in Japan.
Padraic and his Tokyo-native wife, Meukey moved back to his native Shrule a few years ago, with their teenage son and daughter, after living and working for many years in Japan.
Padraic says that in spite of the excellent earthquake alert system in Japan this tsunami hit the northern area so quickly that many people had little chance of escaping the death and devastation
From their home, in the Galway-Mayo border village, they have been contacting relations in Tokyo, one of whom may have had a lucky escape, as she was due to travel to the quake region this weekend.
