Services and jobs have been temporarily saved at the Galway Rape Crisis Network following a last minute funding extension.

Grant aid from the Health Service Executive was due to expire today, leaving the future of the organisation in limbo.

However this afternoon Health Minister James Reilly has granted a further extension of funding for a short period.

In a statement to Galway Bay FM, Rape Crisis Network Director Fiona Neary says this decision means that redundancies due today will now NOT be implemented.

Without this intervention, it had been feared that two jobs would be lost and a further two staff would have their hours cut in half.
