Series of drama workshops for adults and kids
Date Published: {J}
A series of drama workshops for adults and children is taking place this summer with the aim of “providing acting tools rather than creating stars and divas!”
That’s according to Aoife Heery of Galway’s All Action Drama School, who has extensive experience in contemporary dance, physical theatre, political theatre, comedy and burlesque.
There will be an emphasis on collaborative theatre making in relation to script development and fun, provocative exercises to stimulate participants to devise their own experimental theatre.
She promises to offer an overview of the roots of physical theatre drawing on the work of Gratowski as well as on techniques of Michael Chekov. The use of masks and gestures in Greek theatre will be explored along with the stock characters of the Italian masked drama, Comedia dell'Arte.
Creative movement workshops seeking to build strength and flexibility through dance and yoga will aim to lead participants to a new physical freedom, along with intensive vocal warm-ups that will emphasise the importance of a free body and free voice in playing Shakespeare.
In their workshops Aoife promises that “children will be taken on a magical journey through creative play and will be given space to dream out loud while being gently lead through imaginative worlds.
There will be workshops in Galway City at The Harbour Hotel are on July 7 and 22 from 5pm-10.pm. Workshops at city’s The Town Hall are on August 6 from 10.30am -11.30pm and 3.30pm-6pm.
Children’s Workshops at The Town Hall are on August 6 from 2.45-3.15pm.
