Senior East Galway clinical staff continue to question Ballinasloe bed closures
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Senior clinical staff in East Galway are still seeking an independent external review over the decision to close 22 acute psychiatric beds in Ballinasloe.
The comments, made by the clinical acting director of East Galway mental health services, come ahead of a protest in the city this lunchtime.
Protestors will gather at Galway Cathedral at 12.45 and will push a hospital bed along University Road from the cathedral to UHG.
The phased closure of the unit at St. Brigid's hospital starts on Monday with the transfer of 5 beds to the acute psychiatric unit at UHG.
HSE management say the move is part of the implementation of vision for change.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Consultant psychiatrist Margaret O' Grady says they have serious concerns about the plans to close the unit in Ballinasloe.
