SECURITY PRESENCE AT CITY HALL QUESTIONED

Date Published: 11-Mar-2013
The presence of private security outside City Hall on College Road this evening has been raised at the meeting of the city council.
Cllr Colette Connolly questioned the decision to implement such measures, and asked how much it was going to cost, and which budget the money would be taken from.
Responding, City Manager Joe O'Neil said that the decision was taken based on advice from Gardai, and added he had no idea of what the cost would be at this stage.
At least three security guards were posted outside City Hall this afternoon ahead of a planned protest posting on social network site Facebook by a group called 'Fine Gael and Labour Out'.
A small group of people was refused entry to the meeting as they hadn't registered in advance as required by Standing Order 54, a regulation of the City Council.
