Seanad hears calls for presidential pardon for Margaretta D'Arcy
Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Seanad has heard calls for the President to pardon a 79-year-old woman who is serving a three month prison term.
Margaretta D'Arcy, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease, was jailed last week for illegally accessing a runway at Shannon airport.
President Higgins' wife Sabina visited Ms D'Arcy in prison over the weekend.
But Sinn Féin senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh says the Constitution gives the President himself the power to pardon her.
