ScullionÕs Galway gig to mark new release

Date Published: 15-Nov-2012

Scullion, the folk-rock band who first came to prominence in the mid 1970s, play Róisín Dubh this Friday, November 16 as part of a national tour to celebrate their new collection of songs.

The new album Long Wave was launched at Triskel Christchurch in Cork in September and is their first in over 20 years. It includes a new version of Philip King’s Fear and an instrumental by Robbie Overson, among other new tracks.

The three musicians in Scullion, Sonny Condell, Robbie Overson and Philip King remain true to their eclectic musical roots. The music and songs of Sonny Condell are the foundation of the Scullion sound and this show will celebrate his contribution. Philip King says of the current tour that “there will be new music and a journey through the band's back pages”.

King, who is also involved in television and radio these days, hosts The South Wind Blows on RTÉ Radio, and it’s one of the station’s more interesting and eclectic shows. Broadcast live from Dingle it features a diverse range of music. In one show he might spin tracks by acts as different as Delorentos, The National and Alison Krauss.

Having already played Cork, Limerick, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, the band are on track for what they promise will be a special and uplifting evening of music.

Doors for the show are at 8pm, tickets €20/€18 members.
