Galway's growth in the science and IT sectors is attracting an influx of students to the city's third level colleges.

Thousands of students wishing to study in Galway are receiving their CAO course offers today.

Point trends show a notable increase in areas including science and computing with the level 8 GMIT degree course jumping from 330 to 360, and the level 7 software development course also on the up.

Michael Hannon is Registrar at GMIT and says trends show students are looking at courses where they see future jobs.

These trends are also noted in NUI Galway where its Biomedical Science course has increased from 515 to 550.

Computer Science and Information Technology has also seen a considerable points boost from 390 to 415.

Stephen O'Dea [Day] is the Admissions Officer with NUIG and says students are choosing Galway for its specialist science sectors.
