SCALED DOWN POSTAL SERVICE TO CONTINUE IN AUGHRIM

Date Published: 27-Mar-2008
A scaled down postal service in Aughrim is to be maintained following negotiations between An Post and John Burke, who runs the part-time service. It emerged last week that the service of paying old age pensions, unemployment benefit and childrens allowance in Aughrim was to end this week. This would have meant local people would have to travel to Ballinasloe or Kiconnell to collect payments.Local Councillor Dermot Connolly initiated an arrangement between An Post and John Burke to keep a diminished service going in Aughrim. This will mean a part-time service will continue from 9am to 1pm every Thursday and Friday. On the first Tuesday of every month, childrens allowance will also be paid out from 9am to 1pm.
