ARDRAHAN failed in their bid to add the minor camogie crown to the Feile and U16 titles secured earlier in the year, succumbing to the might of Sarsfields in a lacklustre county A final in Killimor on Saturday.

Although conditions were tolerable, the contest itself was a largely forgettable affair, serving up little in terms of entertainment. That shouldn’t take away, however, from a skilful Sarsfields side who received the ideal boost in preparation ahead of the club’s All Ireland Intermediate semi-final against Leinster champions the Harps of Laois next February.

Deserving of their first County Minor ‘A’ title, Sarsfields were in complete control across the three major lines of the pitch-half backs, midfield and half forwards. From the outset, centre back Tara Kenny played a crucial role in cutting out the supply of leather filtering into Ardrahan’s full forward line, while further forward Niamh McGrath tormented an outclassed defence. Adrahan though, lacked the sharpness and enthusiasm that fuelled their campaign en-route to Saturday’s climax encounter.

In any event, Sarsfields were quicker of the blocks establishing a 0-4 to 0-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. Ardrahan, however, were guilty of some awful striking in front of goal clocking up three wides inside the opening ten minutes.
