Salthill concert branded a hoax by band

A Facebook page promoting a two-day concert in Salthill Park – supposedly featuring Hozier, The Delorentos, Mundy and Walking on Cars – has been branded a hoax.
Irish rock band The Delorentos took to Twitter to warn people that the so-called ‘Electric Promenade’ event is fake.
Almost 9,000 people tagged themselves as planning to attend the event, which was supposed to take place in Salthill Park on July 24 and 25.
After the brief statement from The Delorentos, the Facebook event page was rebranded to exclude the names of bands.
It’s the latest in a series of Facebook event pages targeting Galway which are believed to be hoaxes – more than 20,000 people have signalled their intention to ‘attend’ an event which promises to screen a movie on Salthill Beach.
Galway City Council says it has no connection with the ‘Movie on the Beach Galway’ Facebook event and has not received any applications from its mystery organisers.
The event claims to be showing a movie on Salthill beach on August 2 from 3-6pm, as ‘another something to add to our great City of Culture’.
There is much ambiguity surrounding the person, or group, behind the event, which has counterparts in Dublin, Cork, Donegal and Waterford organised for the same date.
The City Council speculated that it may be part of a guerrilla marketing campaign and questioned whether playing a movie in broad daylight would be feasible, and whether technical aspects such as tide levels have been taken into account – high tide would be at 7.25pm in Salthill on that date.
The event description states that the date may be changed depending on the weather.
The photograph used to promote the event is not of Salthill, but rather of a movie screening at the Karma Kandara resort in Bali.
