Concerns have been raised over the safety risk posed by hoarding at the city Art House Cinema site on Dock Road.

The site is currently under construction and project managers say the hoarding, which has caused a one lane restriction, is due to be taken away on May 31st.

The old two-way system will then be reinstated after years of project delays and setbacks.

JJ Rhatigan, began work in March this year, after the original contractor pulled out, and has now completed excavation of the basement.

City Cllr Frank Fahy told this week's joint policing committee meeting that the hoarding causes serious traffic safety issues and says he has witnessed three collisions in the area, many involving tourists.

Superintendent Marie Skehill says it's not a matter for the Gardai.

However Cllr Fahy says it's a dangerous blind spot that must be addressed.
