RTE TO TRANSFER GALWAY OPERATIONS TO GMIT

Date Published: 21-Sep-2012
RTE is to transfer its operations in Galway to GMIT, in an effort to save money on infrastructure costs.
It currently operates from a base at Hynes Building, Saint Augustine Street in the city.
The transfer will involve a move to the GMIT Centre for Creative Arts and Media which is located in Cluain Mhuire, Well Park.
The national broadcaster has also announced that operations in Sligo, Dundalk, Athlone and Waterford will all move into their nearby institutes of technology.
And while some staff roles will be reviewed, there will be no job losses as a result of these changes.
The State broadcaster says the review will result in a saving of over one million euro on infrastructural costs.
The plan will come into effect from next January.
Cait Noone, Head of GMIT College of Tourism and Arts says the partnership with RTE is a welcome step forward.
