The Skerrit roundabout at GMIT is preventing efficient traffic flow and WILL be considered for conversion to a signalised junction by Galway City Council.

That's according to Joe Tansey, Head of Galway Transportation Unit, who says that the structure means key linkages are being lost between different sets of lights along the N6 corridor.

So far, roundabouts at Briarhill, Ballybane and the Tuam Road have all been converted under the NRA funded Bothar na dTreabh scheme.

Work on the Bodkin roundabout at Galway Shopping Centre is set to begin next month with two other city roundabouts, one at the Menlo Park Hotel and the other near Corrib Park also planned for inclusion.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Joe Tansey says the Skerrit roundabout will be studied for possible conversion as the next priority to complete the co-ordination of the Urban Traffic Management Centre.
