A 31-year-old Romanian man has today been found guilty of robbing a safe containing €18,000 from a Post Office near Loughrea two years ago.
Father of seven, Ilie Mihai, with an address at Swiftbrook Avenue, Tallaght, Dublin was tried at Galway Circuit Criminal Court this week.
He had denied a charge of burglary by entering Byrnes shop and Post Office at Kilrickle, Loughrea as a trespasser on November 2, 2009 and stealing a safe.
Gardai had stopped Mihai, who is on disability due to epilepsy, driving his BMW car in the locality the week before the robbery took place.
Judge Raymond Groarke remanded Mihai in custody to await sentence on February 22.
