Report shows poor ambulance response times in Western region

The West of Ireland has one of the poorest ambulance response times in the country for life threatening cardiac emergencies.

According to the Irish Times, only a third of ambulances in the West arrived within the eight minute target of being called.

This is significantly short of the targets recommended by the Health Information and Quality Authority.

This compares with the East of the country where 60 per cent arrived within eight minutes, and the South where 40 per cent of ambulances arrived within target times.

All of these fall below the State's 75 per cent response rate target.
