The full reopening of the Séamus Quirke Road in the city is set to be delayed by several weeks.

Councillor Padraig Conneely says he was told at a meeting of the Corporate Policy Group that a sewer connection has failed and needs to be replaced.

10 million euro is being spent on widening the Séamus Quirke Road to provide bus lanes.

According to Galway West T.D Seán Kyne, private bus company City Direct has confirmed regular bus services along the route.

However Deputy Kyne says he's still awaiting a response from Bus Éireann about the route.

Councillor Padraig Conneely says it's disappointing that the reopening of Séamus Quirke Road won't take place until the New Year
