Reduced mental health services in Galway is undermining the quality of patient care.

That's according to the Pyschiatric Nurses Association which is calling on the government not to target mental health services in the upcoming budget.

It follows this week's meeting between the Association and Kathleen Lynch, Minister of State for Equality & Mental Health and Roisin Shorthall, Junior Health Minister

The group has highlighted concerns regarding the closure of Galway community units in Portumna and Headford and the re-deployment of staff.

It also outlined a lack of regular patient activities in the acute centre in University Hospital Galway.

Speaking to Galway Bay FM news, Des Kavanagh of the Psyhiatric Nurses Association says the recruitment ban poses a huge threat to services
