Tallymen are predicting today's recheck of the half a million votes will have little impact on Declan Ganley's fight for a seat in Europe. The recheck was requested by Libertas leader and Tuam businessman Declan Ganley who's concerned that some of his votes have mistakenly been allocated to the wrong box. Meanwhile, looking more and more likely the three North West seats will eventually be filled by the three leading candidates. The results of the first count were announced last night. No candidate reached the quota of 123 thousand 815 votes but Independent MEP Marian Harkin topped the poll with almost 85,000 votes. Fianna Fail's Pat the Cope Gallagher is second on 82,643 votes, Fine Gael's Jim Higgins is on 80,093 votes, while Libertas's Declan Ganley is in fourth place on 70,638 votes.
