Raw Rock ‘n’ Roll on the menu

FANS of raw Rock ‘n’ Roll should make it their business to see Pavlov’s Dogs when the Cork-based quintet play the city’s Monroe’s Live on Friday, August 19.
Pavlov's Dogs formed when old friends Paul Power (vocals) and Darrin Mullins (guitar/ vocals) began to work in Mullins’ home studio.
“Darren got a [computer programme] Pro Tools system and basically started laying down tracks and inviting me up to throw some vocals down,” says Paul, their front man. “Just so he could come to terms with using Pro-Tools and learn his way. After a very short time we had a couple of songs, and they turned into three songs, four songs.
“And we were really into it, so we kept on going. We knocked out the album and then we kind of built the band around them afterwards.”
To ‘build’ the band Paul and Darrin asked Gordon Warren (guitar/keys), John Coman (drums) and bassist Paco to learn the songs that had been recorded. It’s a very modern way of forming a band – make the album, then find your group – but Paul’s happy with how it’s going.
“It’s kind of a strange birth for the band,” he admits. “But we’re up and running now, and mad for road really. And rehearsing as much as we can.”
Pavlov’s Dogs have a few gigs behind them now and are loving the live scene “Every gig has been great, every gig get a little better,” says Paul. Playing in front of a home crowd has been important for that, he adds.
