An extended and revamped Corrib Bar – at the highest level of the Millennium Stand – will be one of a number of refurbishments to greet patrons at this year’s Ballybrit racing festival.

A new entrance complex has also been constructed at the back of the stands with new turnstiles, offices, toilet facilities and wheelchair access provided.

New seating has also been installed in the top tier of the Millennium Stand while for the first time this year, racegoers who travel by bus from the city to the course, will be dropped off less than 100 metres from the entrance stiles.

While no official figures are available for the cost of the refurbishments, the Galway City Tribune has learned that the improvement works have cost close on €1 million.

“We are delighted to announce the recent upgrade to our facilities. The new entrance building will ensure comfort on arrival while racegoers can also enjoy amazing views and comfort from the newly refurbished Corrib Bar and panoramic restaurant,” said Terry Cunningham, Races Committee Chairman.

He said that while the facilities at Ballybrit were on a par with any top course across Europe, they were always looking at improvements that could be made to increase comfort and access for the patrons.
