PUBLIC MEETING ABOUT FUTURE OF TYNAGH MINES SITE

Date Published: 23-Apr-2008
A public meeting in Tynagh last night [22/4] heard that the 350 acre site of the old Tynagh Mines, is a 'toxic timebomb' and one of the top toxic sites in the country. The meeting, which was organsied by An Gáirdín in Portumna, was addressed by Dr. Larry Edwards from Los Angeles, who spoke about life after incineration. The Tynagh community is united in opposing any proposals to put an incinerator or landfill on the old mines site.Instead, they want the site remediated, similiar to what occurred at the Silvermines site near Nenagh in recent years.
